1. Get out of debt. Everyone around you is drowning in debt. Be different, get out of it. It’s like the over-crowded swimming pool that you do NOT want to get in. I’m getting so close to paying off my student loan debt– started out with $75,000 last May and I’ve got $25,000 to go…I feel like I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and you can bet your @$$ I won’t owe anyone money every again. Credit card debt is huge too. I have one credit card that I pay off completely every month just to build my credit. If you don’t have the money for it, don’t buy it. Simple. 2. Don’t be afraid to say “no” to plans. Seriously, practice using your “no” muscle. FOMO (fear of missing out) is a real thing and I do not struggle with this at all, haha. I have absolutely no problem turning down plans. I know when I’m due for some time to myself, and I do this weekly. Yes, I turn down plans WEEKLY. My plans are balanced with non-plans. I know way too many people that are constantly being involved in all the activities and they look and seem drained. I’m all about keeping the cortisol levels nice and low. One thing I do is try not to make future commitments. For example, if it’s Monday and someone asks to hang out on Friday, I say “maybe, I’ll see how I feel and we’ll confirm Thursday!” This allows me to say no if I feel like it’s been a hectic week and I just need to relax.
3. Meditate daily. I typically meditate everyday for 10-15 minutes. Meditation is the LAST “task” of my morning routine- I usually meditate after I’ve set up my treatment room and have 10-15 minutes before my first client arrives. I recommend meditating sometime during the morning before time slips away. It really is an awesome way to start out the day feeling energized, centered, reminded and calm. I love the Headspace app.
4. Drink lots water. No less than 3 liters per day. The more hydrated you are, the better every single organ in your body will function- your brain, your heart, your stomach….everything. Dehydration can lead to so many medical conditions that can easily be avoided by doing your part.
5. Sweat. You HAVE TIME. Whether it’s 5 minutes or an hour, there’s time. It doesn’t take much to get your heart rate up. If you’re someone who doesn’t have a lot of time, download a Tabata Timer app which is a 4 minute workout. You can do squats, sit ups and push ups ANYWHERE. Run around the block 2-3 times? Figure it out because your health right now plays a huge role in the future “YOU”.
6. Choose your circle wisely. Who do you choose to spend time around? Dodge the Negative Nancy’s and Debbie Downer’s, they’re not worth your time. Surround yourself with people who make you better, encourage you, understand you, hold you accountable and believe in you. This doesn’t mean leave out the people that challenge you. Challenging can be life-changing, just make sure it’s not a toxic-type challenge! My friends and I are usually working out, expressing ideas, cracking jokes and watching The Bachelor on Mondays.
7. Give someone a compliment every day. It’s hard to compliment someone without having a smile on your face so this ensures that you experienced positive emotions at some point during the day! This is so good for your health and you can turn anyone’s day upside down by paying them a simple compliment.
