is making healthy food choices really all that matters?

So I’m pretty well known in my circle of friends for living an extremely healthy lifestyle. Like, I work out 5x/week, I drink 1 gallon of water per day, I sleep 8 hours every night, I have come up with all the healthy meal alternatives, I plan my cheats and I even track all my macros. Which means, yes, I count how many grams of carbs, protein and fat I consume every day…

Well what seems like forever now, no matter how healthily I seem to live, I rarely feel good. I usually feel pretty good as soon as I wake up and have some tea and head to the gym….I’ll get home, take a shower, make my breakfast smoothie and get ready for work. Halfway thru getting ready I start to feel tired, like I’m already crashing (e v e r y morning.) and once I get in my car and head to work, it’s full on sluggish. For so long, I thought it was fumes from my car making me sick, or even the smog (I live in LA). THEN I’d slowly start to feel a little normal. My go to lunch is typically some protein, usually eggs and rice (I LOVE RICE). And then next thing you know, I feel like putting my head down on the table and crashing. I feel exhausted and kind of on edge, like not in a good mood….

Another thing to note: I randomly get red dots/rashes that start around my eyes and spread to my cheeks, like once or twice a month. Never knew what this was from. It only would happen when I worked out (I guess with my heart rate and body temperature rising, I was being reactive).

FINALLY decided to take a food sensitivity test and YOU GUYS! life changing! Come to find out I have a major intolerance to ALMONDS and EGGS! I would put 2-3 tablespoons of almond butter in my smoothie (because this is healthy, right?!?) every morning, which is why I felt awful by the time I got to work. And I would eat eggs every morning and a majority of the time at lunch, which is when I would die down again. My snacks always consisted of almond crackers and instead of using cow’s milk, I always buy almond milk. I literally consume almonds more than ANYTHING. I also have an intolerance to sweet potatoes and cinnamon which are 2 things I consume 3-4 days out of the week, once again, because these ARE healthy options.

It’s been 3 days since I received my test results from EverlyWell. I have cut out all sensitivies and I feel a thousand times better. Seriously the best $200 I’ve ever spent. If any of you ever feel tired and sluggish, or maybe you constantly break out on your forehead and can’t figure out why, I HIGHLY suggest you take a Food Sensitivity Test. You can click on this link to get the same one I got and you’ll get 10% off. It arrived within a couple days, once I took the test, they received it within a couple days and I got my results within 3 or 4 days. Simplest process ever.

Do any of you ever feel like you make all the right choices and still feel off? I’m so happy to be able to share this with anyone who may suffer from the same symptoms I did. If you feel great all the time, well good for youuuu, haha. But if you hear anyone with similar issues, encourage them to take a food sensitivity test. Seriously life changing!

the truth about juice cleanses

juicenutrition

Juice cleanses are all the rage right now and have been for the past couple years. You guys, juice cleanses actually aren’t good for you! Most people looking into juice cleanses are typically trying to lose weight so I’m going to address that crew in this post, just remember juice cleanses aren’t ideal for anyone.

So what happens when you do a juice cleanse? Well, juices are typically filled with glucose and fructose in which your liver can only store 1/4 cup before storing as fat, so half way thru your second juice you’re doing yourself a disservice. The 5 pounds you may have lost during your juice cleanse was most likely due to inflammation and water, where you also most likely lost muscle mass. Muscle is crucial in fat loss because muscle burns fat. Muscle is your body’s fat-burning weapon! Now your metabolism has come to a halt, your tummy looks/feel flatter for the bikini you’re wearing this weekend. After the weekend is over, you gained the 5 pounds back plus some. Do not go this route!

If you’re trying to lose weight, you will be more likely to reach your goals when your blood sugar is balanced. The best way to maintain balanced blood sugar levels is by eating good carbs, healthy fats, protein, fiber and all the leafy greens. Simple sugars and processed foods should only be consumed in moderation because let’s be real!

all-time top 5 facial mists estheticians love

It’s almost summertime and I couldn’t be happier! Less clothes, no makeup and more sun.  It’s obvious the days will be hotter and where I live, even dryer. Keep in mind that the sun is the main culprit for absorbing the water from our skin therefore it’s imperative that we always have a *hydrating* mist or toner on hand, not just at home. Here is a list of my favorite alcohol-free mists that instantly deliver hydration and nourishment to your skin:

5. Rose Hibiscus Hydrating Face Mist $32

This one is a beautiful blend of rose extract which acts as a humectant (holds water), aloe for calming and healing, and witch hazel which helps balance your skin. Best for normal and combination skin types.

4. Colloidal Silver Mist $34

Combining just two essential ingredients, colloidal silver (natural disinfectant) and lavender floral water (calming and hydrating), this mist is a must have for those with breakout-prone skin. Keep it in your gym bag and don’t forget to rinse and spritz as soon as you get done working out. This antibacterial toner will change your life!

3. Coconut Mint Cooling Mineral Mist $22

This blend of sea salt minerals, coconut water, aloe leaf juice and peppermint oil is about as refreshing as it gets. I keep a bottle of this in my refrigerator at all times. Ideal for all skin types.

2. Nourish Hydrating Firming Mist $48

Lavender and orange essential oils soothe your skin while a rare blue-green algae that’s rich in amino acids, vitamins B, C and E help improve skins elasticity and firmness. Hydrating, anti-aging and smells A M A Z I N G. I love this mist! Perfect for all skin types, especially dry and mature.

1.  Sea Vitamin Boost $38

Organic red algae hydrates on a deep level protecting your skin from harsh conditions like wind and dry heat. Pomegranate is a superfood that provides nutrients to the skin as well as fights off free radicals that cause us to age. Also packed with another antioxidant-rich ingredient, resveratrol (derived from grape seeds), you can’t go wrong without this bottle of goodness! Works great for normal, dry and mature skin types.

**Hydration is key when it comes to anti-aging. You should always have some type of hydrating mist in your purse and on your nightstand…and if you’re a skincare junky like moi, in your refrigerator as well. The ones I’ve shared with you are safe to use as much as you’d like, anytime throughout the day, under and over makeup. 🙂

5 beauty products i swear by

1. Kate Somerville Clinic-to-Go Peel Pads $56

These peel pads are so good! They’re made up mostly of lactic acid which really helps dissolve whatever is inside the pores, leaving your skin feeling super clean and pores are tighter. I use these twice per week, at night, after I cleanse. It tingles at first, yesss. I leave it on for about 10 minutes (the tingling stops because it does self-neutralize) and then just rinse with warm water.

2. Lip Smacker Lip Balm $2

I’m so happy this stuff has always been around! No matter the trends with lip balm, gloss and everything else, Lip Smacker had it figured out from the beginning and has never changed. I really appreciate that. I also appreciate the Bubble Gum, Cotton Candy and Watermelon flavors. So silky and hydrating with a little bit of a pink tint. Love.

3. RMS Living Luminizer $38

I own a huge portion of the RMS Beauty line, but the Living Luminizer is the one I seriously haven’t gone a day without using in….like 2 years. It’s a very natural, “pretty” highlighter that’s super easy to apply. Literally just swipe with your finger and apply to cheek bones like sponge painting. I even started applying it to my cupids bow to draw more light to my lips. This is a beautiful formula and looks great on everyone.

4. Schmidt’s Natural Deodorant $13

Especially the Geranium! Geranium, anything and everything, please. This is the first natural deodorant that really does last all day. Trust me, I’ve tried so many. I still try not to think about how much money I’ve wasted on trying out new deodorants. Not cool.

5. Paul Mitchell Color Protect Locking Spray $14

UVA protection for your hair! Sunflower extract provides sun protection so your hair doesn’t dry out and color doesn’t fade. This spray also has castor oil in it, which is the best natural ingredient for strengthening and growing your hair. Jason says I’m over the top when it comes to sunscreen. I’m cool with that.

XOXO
